US commuter rail service Tri-Rail may not get funds to add a proposed passenger train to run through south Florida.
The warning was given by the US Federal Transit Administration as existing services are put in danger because of severe budget troubles.
Tri-Rail will cut the 50-a-day schedule to 30 trains daily, and terminate weekend service in October 2009, if federal funding can not be secured.
Tri-Link may also be forced to return a $256m federal loan used in its construction, unless lawmakers find a way to generate $9m annually to close its budget shortfall.
The proposed service was to run on the Florida East Coast Railway tracks.
