Britain's Tube Network to Go Digital

17 June 2009

Britain's Tube network will get broadband internet access under the government's Digital Britain plans to meet the expectations of London 2012 Olympic Games visitors.

The government aims to make broadband available to everyone to avoid a two-tier society with a growing gap between affluent, connected Britons and those without adequate access to the internet.

Rail operators will be provided with high-speed broadband services as part of the rail franchise requirements to avoid network coverage gaps.

Mobile network operators can take the help of the government to fund solutions and improve broadband mobile access for customers travelling by Tube.
