RailAmerica in the US will repair the flood-damaged infrastructure on its two of its short lines for the first time using federal disaster-relief funds.
The Indiana Southern Railroad will use a $1.5m grant for track repair, and the Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad will spend $1.9m on infrastructure damaged by 2008's storms and subsequent flash flooding.
Under the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009, The Federal Railroad Administration is authorised to provide $20m in federal disaster areas for the repair and rehabilitation of rail infrastructure, including bridges, track and signals.
