Canada's Bombardier Transportation has rolled out the Movia metro car for the second phase of India's Delhi Metro project at its first Indian manufacturing facility, Savli in the Vadodara district of Gujarat.
Out of Delhi Metro's total order of 424 Movia cars, 36 were built in Germany and the rest at Savli. The train was released within eight months after the establishment of its factory in India.
Bombardier has invested €33m for construction of the first Indian plant, wholly owned by a global foreign company in Vadodara, with modern facilities, including robotic spot-welding based on the Görlitz plant in eastern Germany.
Following the success of the Delhi Metro Phase 2 project, Bombardier is actively pursuing other metro projects in the region.
It has received worldwide orders for 3,550 Movia cars.
