28 May 2009

The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) in the US has awarded a $73.7m contract to Swiss-based Stadler to supply 11 GTW 2/6 diesel multiple units (DMU) for the future A-train service between Denton and Carrollton.

Each DMU can accommodate 96 passengers comfortably and has a total capacity of 200.

The new 70% low-floor GTW 2/6 DMU features luggage racks, bike racks and space for wheelchairs.

The units will run on 21 miles of A-train corridor after 18 months of its commencement by December 2010.

DCTA has recently received funds from the Texas Department of Transportation for the order.

The vehicles' construction will start in 2010 and be delivered in phases between 2011 and 2012.
