ARC Reallocates $25m Funds to MARTA

28 May 2009

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) has reallocated $25m of US stimulus funds to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), to address a budget deficit and avoid making drastic cuts in service.

MARTA, in turn, will reallocate this one-time $25m American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus package to transit-related projects in its service area under federal guidelines.

MARTA CEO and general manager Beverly Scott said that this unique funding infusion would help keep them afloat next year.

"The criticality of increased state/regional transportation funding for future years is absolutely urgent. We must take action to address this problem," Scott said.

The budget reallocation awaits the approval of Georgia Regional Transportation Authority board.

MARTA officials will reveal their plans for proposed FY 2010 budget to the board of directors in a 28 May meeting.
