ARTC Awards Signalling Contract for Freight Track

22 May 2009

Australian Rail Track (ARTC) has awarded an A$14m turnkey signalling contract to Invensys Rail Group subsidiary Westinghouse Rail Systems Australia (WRSA) as part of ongoing programme to improve the cost effectiveness of rail freight services along the North-South Rail Corridor between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

ARTC has been working to alleviate a major bottleneck in Southern Sydney by installing a dedicated freight line. Under the contract, WRSA will design, commission and install a complete signalling system.

The ARTC project aims to provide a 36km dedicated freight line between Macarthur and Sefton for freight rail services only.
