21 May 2009

BNSF Railway will spend $26m on track upgrade projects in the states of Montana and Wyoming in the US.

Two maintenance of way (MOW) crews will work on a $15m project of replacing about 150,000 ties and 35 miles of track between Casper, Wyoming and Silesia, Montana. The project will be completed by September 2009.

In June, four additional MOW crews will start working on an $11m project to replace about 75,000 ties, undercut six miles of track and lay 22 miles of new track on the mainline between Custer and Glendive.

BNSF is expected to spend a total of approximately $2bn on improving railway infrastructure throughout 2009.
