Polish State Railways to Get Rid of 2,500 Stations

19 May 2009

Polish State Railways (PKP) is planning to get rid off 2,500 railway stations due its current inability to maintain the infrastructure.

The company made this decision since it is unable to meet $121m costs of restructuring restructuring every year, the Railway Market website reports.

It will offer 1,000 stations to the local governments, 100 to PKP PLK, 150 will be sold and about 200 will be closed down. The company will retain only 83 strategic stations.
