Spain Calls For Tenders on €90m Rail Electrification Project

19 May 2009

The Spanish Government has called tenders for electrification of the Vigo-A Coruña section, a part of the 155km-long high-speed Atlantic axis.

Under the project estimated to cost €90m, an overhead electric line powered by 25kV AC will be installed at the section, while safety cables at A Coruña si Santiago de Compostela stations will be replaced by cables with reduction factor.

In addition, the 50Hz circuits in Santiago de Compostela station will be replaced by audio-frequency circuits, the Railway Insider website reports.

This Atlantic axis, which is part of the Strategic Plan on Infrastructure and Transport 2005–2020, links Ferrol (A Coruña province) and the Portugal border, via A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela and Vigo.
