Two Refurbished 11-Car Trainsets for South African Railways

19 May 2009

Kei Rail has introduced two refurbished 11-car trainsets on the line between Ambele and Mthatha in South Africa as a trial service to gauge customer response.

Each air-conditioned set consists of three sleeping cars with showers, five economy class seating cars, a business class car, a catering car with kitchen and two serving areas plus one luggage and one generator car.

One train will operate every day on the 282km-long route in each direction, accommodating 464 passengers.

The trainsets, refurbished by Transnet Rail Engineering, are an advanced version of Spoornet coaches.

Three more refurbished sets will be introduced if the vehicles get a positive response from passengers.
