Algeria has launched a 350km electric train service to better serve its outer-suburban passengers.
The €89m project was executed by Alstom, local firm Baticim and national railway STNF's subsidiary Infrarai, railwaygazette.com has reported.
The project included laying 350km of electric track with three substations, and an associated control and telecommunications system.
This rail service starts from the capital Alger to Thénia in the east covering 54km and 68km west to El Affroun.
Stadler has supplied 64 four-car Flirt EMU coaches with a further 22 bought from Swiss firm Bussnang.
Stadler will be responsible for maintaining the trains for ten years.
