The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will grant $143m to start the project developed by OJSC TransContainer, Russia's largest container operator.
The project aims to renovate and improve the rolling stock fleet by adding new flatcars and other equipment.
The total amount of the loan will be partly arranged by other banks.
Another project to increase operational efficiency at TransContainer is also being considered by EBRD.
