13 May 2009

The Ministry of Railways in Pakistan has invited private companies to bid for the operations of passenger and freight services in the country.

The bidding will be closed on 25 May 2009.

The 20-year contract will avail the private companies to use the network, yards and other facilities of Pakistan Railways, the Railway Gazette website reported.

Export-Import Bank of China is expected to provide a US$89m loan towards Pakistan Railways' planned US$105m purchase of 75 diesel locomotives from CNR's Dalian plant.
