Moncton Bags $100m Canadian Rail Restoration Project

06 May 2009

Moncton's Industrial Rail Services will restore 98 of the Crown Corporations passenger trains under a contract worth more than $100m, offered by Via Rail Canada.

Under the contract, Monctonhas will restore the trains that run between Montreal and Toronto, the Telegraph-Journal reports.

The deal is only a small part of $691.9m in funding that has been dedicated to Via Rail to improve its services across Canada.

Maintenance work will be carried out at the company's west Moncton facility, formerly CN Railway's locomotive repair and rebuild shop.

While funding has come through, the deal is still waiting on final approval from the authorities.
