The Victorian Government in Australia has announced the removal of the busy Springvale Road level crossing and grade separation.
The upgrade will see the Belgrave and Lilydale rail lanes lowered with a new road crossing built over the top, separating traffic.
As a part of this project, a new railway station will be constructed on the west side of Springvale Road, replacing the existing Nunawading Station on the east side, which is used by more than 3,000 rail commuters every day.
The project is the first in a series of grade separations to be carried out as part of Australia's A$38m transport plan.
Train services will be replaced by buses in the quieter January period while the rail line is lowered and Nunawading station is reconstructed.
VicRoads and Connex, the companies responsible, will complete the project by early 2010.
