A project to improve rail track and signalling on the seven-mile long Tacoma-to-Lakewood corridor in the US state of Washington will be carried out by Sound Transit using $4.6m federal stimulus fund.
The project focuses on passenger safety by improving track and signal systems at railroad crossings from South M Street in Tacoma to Bridgeport Way Southwest near Lakewood Station.
The $4.6m grant is part of a $131m federal stimulus package for transit projects in the Puget Sound region.
A new 1.2-mile track connecting Tacoma Dome Station to the rest of the rail corridor will also be built, including a rail flyover across Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma.
