Tajik Railways, based in Tajikistan, recorded a decrease in passengers but an increase in its freight traffic in the first quarter of 2009, against the same period in 2008.
The 950km-long network has 31 stations and carried 182,000 passengers in the first few months of 2009 against 222,000 in 2008. Freight increased 7.6% to reach 3.432 million tonnes in 2009’s first quarter.
Tajik's fleet includes 2,800 freight wagons, 354 passenger coaches and 56 diesel locomotives.
