Unused rail cars left abandoned from cancelled projects in the US are attracting vandals and causing uproar among local communities.
A number of unused BNSF railway cars have been discarded on a track in South California and signify the impact the recession is having on railway projects in the US.
The cars, which were intended to run through the San Gabriel Valley as part of the proposed Metro Gold Line, have been left idle until the shipping business picks up from the economic downturn, according to BNSF officials.
But city officials have been restricted from taking any action as the cars were not owned by the city authorities.
During a meeting between BNSF and city leaders, arranged by Metro Gold Line Construction Authority officials, BNSF promised to resolve the issue.
