London Rail Contractors Banned Following Major Delays

02 June 2008

Network Rail has banned Transport for London (TfL) contractors from performing construction work on a bridge after it caused severe disruption at London's Liverpool Street station.

On the evening of 28 May, scaffolding from a new bridge fell onto tracks causing disruption to services to Stansted Airport, Southend in Essex, Cambridge, Ipswich and Norwich.

Thousand of commuters were left facing major delays the day after the occurrence.

Contractors were banned from the bridge with immediate affect and the ban will remain in place until measures are in place to avoid a repeat incident.

The incident is currently being investigated by TfL and as of yet no plans have been made to recommence works on the bridge.
