Summer Strikes Threaten UK Passenger Rail

28 May 2008

Managers at some of the biggest railway stations in the UK are to be balloted to strike in a row over pay and conditions.

According to leaders of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association, if the 400 Network Rail employees at 17 stations support industrial action it could lead to "widespread disruption" during the summer holiday season.

The decision to hold a strike vote follows the breakdown of talks over harmonising pay and conditions following a reorganisation of staff at all the company's stations.
