Thales to Upgrade Delhi Metro

23 May 2008

Electronics and systems group Thales is to supply the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) with an advanced passenger information system (APIS) and Master Clock units in 74 metro stations across Delhi.

The APIS solution includes Passenger Information Display Systems (PIDS) and Public Address Systems (PAS), allowing for the automisation and optimisation of signalling and scheduling information, says the company.

The contract is due for completion in 2010 in time for the Delhi Commonwealth Games. The new services will be ready for all tourists visiting the Games, while the advanced systems will be in place over the long term, says Thales.

Thales was chosen by the DMRC through bidding for the second phase of its metro, were it also won a contract to upgrade Delhi Metro's ticketing system, including providing station computers by 2010.
