Canada Tests Eco-Friendly Freight

07 May 2008

Canadian Pacific Railways (CPR) is to test two environmentally friendly locomotives in southern Ontario as part of the Canada's ecoFREIGHT program, the company has announced.

CPR says it has ordered two high efficiency GenSet locomotives manufactured by Canada's National Railway Equipment Company.

The locomotives use three independent diesel engine GenSets to achieve the same total horsepower as one 2,100 horsepower diesel engine.

The technology aims to achieve significant fuel savings, ultra-low emissions and longer engine life, says CPR.

The ecoFREIGHT program helps to test new clean technologies.
