Bombardier Extends Light Rail at Malaysian Airport

26 November 2008

Bombardier Transportation has signed a contract with Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to expand the automated people mover light rail system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Malaysia.

In a deal worth approximately €27m, Bombardier will be responsible for the design and supply of three driverless vehicles and modifications to the existing six-vehicle fleet.

The contract also covers modifications to the automatic train control, power distribution and communications systems, supply and integration of a central control centre in the new operations and maintenance storage facility as well as project management, systems engineering and integration, and test and commissioning.

Local partner Hartasuma Sdn Bhd will be responsible for the civil works on the spur line extension to the new operations, maintenance and storage facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.

President of Bombardier Transportation's Systems Division Eran Gartner said that the partnership with KLIA was enjoying long-term success.

"Since the opening of the airport in 1998, the CX-100 APM has provided exceptional service for riders and we remain committed to helping MAHB achieve its goals," he said.

Bombardier Transportation's automated people movers have served commuters in major cities and international airports around the world for over 35 years.
