Thalys has announced that all of its trains travelling across four country borders will now have high-speed Wi-Fi internet technology on board.
Thalys, together with a Consortium of Nokia Siemens Networks, 21Net and Telenet, has implemented the continuous broadband throughout its entire network in Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
CEO of Thalys International, Olivier Poitrenaud said that the technology has been implemented as a response to the high expectations of business customers, for whom train time can now serve as an extension of their office.
"Our aim is to continually expand our offer of services in line with the evolving needs and expectations of our customers," he added.
New features have been developed on the ThalysNet portal, such as the availability of a PDA version of the portal, which will allow passengers to save UMTS roaming costs by connecting to the local on board Wi-Fi network and using the purchased internet access in multiple sessions during the same trip.
Passengers travelling in Comfort 1 will have access to the ThalysNet portal and the internet included in the ticket price. Passengers travelling in Comfort 2 will have free access to the ThalysNet portal but internet access is chargeable.
