China's First High-Speed Train Ready for Service

16 April 2008

China's first domestically-made bullet train, capable of reaching speeds of up to 350kmp/h, has rolled off the production line.

The train, based on the Siemens ICE 3 model, was manufactured by the China Northern Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry Corporation in Tangshan.

Three of the trains will begin service on the new 120km Beijing-Tianjin route before the start of the Olympics in August, cutting travel time from the present 80 mins to 30 mins.

By the end of 2009, 57 high speed trains are expected to be in commercial operation.
