European Rail Schemes Face Financial Overruns Claims Report

08 April 2008

Europe's largest transport projects, including large-scale rail works across the continent, are set to cost much more than anticipated, according to a report by professional services company PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The report, which was prepared for the European Parliament, says project overruns could total €40bn on road, rail and sea transport schemes.

Rail projects cited by the report include a rail link from Lyon in France to the EU's eastern Ukrainian border and another connection from Berlin to Palermo.
