Deutsche Bahn AG Profits Rise

01 April 2008

German railway operator Deutsche Bahn AG has announced an increase in net profits for the third year running, despite a series of strikes by train drivers over pay.

Net earnings at Deutsche Bahn rose 2.3 percent to €1.72bn in 2007 from €1.68bn the previous year.

Sales rose to €31.3bn from €30.05bn.

In February, Deutsche Bahn and train driver's union GDL struck a final wage deal after months of negotiations and rail strikes.

Under the agreement, the drivers were to receive an eight percent pay raise from last month and a further three percent from September 2008.
