Thales and Alstom Show Interest in Romanian Underground

29 September 2008

Thales and Alstom have announced that they plan to participate at the tenders organised by the Romanian authorities for the extension of the Bucharest underground transport system.

Thales Vice President Jean-Pierre Forestier said that the Bucharest underground was a potential market for Thales.

“From the point of view of current and future lines, the Romanian market is very attractive for our company and we will continue to make investments for its development”

Officials from Astom said that, although they believe that these projects should be developed by a single company, they will also participate at the tender for the construction of the new underground lines in Bucharest

Both companies are already involved in the countries rail system. Thales is involved in the rehabilitation project for Pan European Corridor IV, while Alstom ensured the maintenance of the Bucharest underground system, as well as the railway system.
