Canada to Invest C$1bn in Infrastructure

19 March 2008

Canadian National Railway is to invest more than C$1bn in track and infrastructure work across North America this year as part of regional spending plans announced this week.

The company says it will spend C$430m in Western Canada and C$300m in both Eastern Canada and the US to repair and upgrade track, bridges and switching yards, writes Reuters.

In December the company announced it would spend C$1.35bn over the next three years to rebuild the 325km Athabasca Northern Railway, threatened with abandonment because of deteriorating track.
