UK-based software company Thales has won a £12.3m contract to supply telecommunications equipment for the new East London railway line in London, due to open in 2010 as part of the London Overground.
The company is set to initally overhaul network infrastructure between Dalston Junction in the north and New Cross Gate and New Cross in the south.
The work will allow remotely located operators to monitor and control individual stations and systems, including public help points, public address, security and surveillance closed circuit television, passenger information displays and emergency systems.
The contract includes installing a turnkey design and the supply of a fixed telecommunications backbone network infrastructure, a synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) transmission network and high-speed wide area networks (WAN).
The first phase is scheduled for completion by 2010, before the new rail link opens ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.
