Queensland Floods Halt Rail Services

15 February 2008

Australia's Queensland freight and passenger rail network has been seriously affected by flooding, leading to cancellations on most services.

A record breaking torrent of 625mm of rain deluged the Mackay region over the past 24 hours, hampering efforts to repair tracks damaged by rainfall earlier in the week.

All Sunlander and Tilt Train services departing from Cairns and Brisbane have been cancelled until further notice, while all container and freight terminals are currently closed in Mackay.
