Lithuanian Railways Upgrades Rail Radio

Lithuanian Railways has signed a €50.5m contract with global communications company Nortel to install wireless communications on its commuter trains.

Working with its partner company Belam, Nortel is to implement its GSM-R radio system to ensure compatibility with other Lithuanian and European rail networks.

The GSM-R radio communication system will cover approximately 88 percent of the country's rail routes, along more than 1,563km of track.
