Tanzania To Build Link To Rwanda

29 January 2008

Tanzania plans to build a rail link to Rwanda's capital Kigali by 2013, the office of Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has announced.

The railway will run from Isaka in southern Tanzania to neighbouring Rwanda, with work expected to begin later this year.

US-based rail operator Burlington Northern Santa Fe will act as advisors to the Rwandan Government on the project, writes Reuters.

The government has not disclosed projects costs or who will finance and construct the railway.
