Turkey Rail Derailment Cause Unknown

28 January 2008

A train derailment in Turkey yesterday, which killed at least nine people and injured 50, has become the latest in a long line of rail accidents in the last four years.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused two train cars to roll over and derail as it travelled from Istanbul to the western city of Denizli, according to news service CNN TГјrk.

In August 2004, two passenger trains collided head-on southeast of Istanbul, killing six people and injuring about 40.

Then in November 2005, a passenger train collided with a truck carrying workers in southern Turkey, killing nine.
