Part of a key UK rail line reopened today after prolonged engineering works caused disruption for thousands of passengers this week.
Work at Rugby station on the busy West Coast Main Line was due to finish on New Year's Day but a lack of engineers led to delays, promoting fears of an overrun into the weekend.
Network Rail says it will investigate the problems, admitting the company had caused "pain and inconvenience" to passengers.
"An investigation into the causes of the overrun has been launched and I will be chairing a high-level meeting next week to review what's happened," says CEO Iain Coucher.
Virgin Trains, who run services on the line, will now begin operating a full service, the company announced.
Industry watchdog the Office of Rail Regulation has launched an investigation.
