Wiener Linien Orders 15 New Metro Trains

14 December 2007

Austrian rail operator Wiener Linien has placed a €135m order for 15 metro trains with a Siemens-led consortium.

Siemens Transportation Systems will receive €94m, Bombardier €26m and Elin EBG Traction €15m.

Siemens says the new energy efficient trains are 112m long and capable of carrying 900 passengers each.

The intermediate cars serve as motor cars, while the end cars act as driving trailer cars.

The trains are slightly wider than the so-called "Sliver Arrow" unit currently in operation on the city's metro lines, and feature extendable ramps for wheelchair and pram access.
