Bombardier Transportation has won a US$189m contract to supply British firm Porterbrook Leasing with 69 next-generation train carriages for use on the London Midland franchise.
Bombardier will supply 12 two-car trains and 15 three-car trains in 2010.
Bombardier's mainline and metros division president Stephane Rambaud-Measson says the DMU Class 172 vehicle is made from over 90 percent recyclable material and will meet the latest emission standards.
"Using the modular platform of our award winning Turbostar train, Bombardier is able to make step changes in technology and environmental attributes of the vehicle, whilst providing the financier and operators with a proven, low-risk, and reliable product," he says.
The DMUs will replace the aging 'Pacer' trains currently in use on the route.
