Thales and SIMS Win E-Ticketing Deal

07 November 2007

Thales and its South African partner SIMS have won a Bombela Electrical & Mechanical Works contract worth €10m to design and install a contactless e-ticketing system for the Gautrain from Johannesburg to Pretoria.

The system will use disposable and reusable smart cards with an embedded chip across all ten train stations.

The tickets will also be compatible with station carparks and the Gautrain bus feeder and distributor system.
