German rail systems manufacturer Grammer AG has launched a new seat for commuter trains which will feature in Austria's Railjet fleet scheduled to begin service next year.
The tailor-made Premium Seat, on display for the first time at Railway Interiors Expo in Germany today, is designed for three different positions: upright for dining and working, relaxed for reading and a separate position for sleeping.
The Premium Seat has been ergonomically designed so contours in the backrest change as the seat switches between positions, to aid the natural process of spinal movement.
The new seat will feature in the premier class of Austrian Railways' 230km/h Railjet train sets.
