French Call One Day Rail Strike

17 October 2007

French transport workers will hold a one-day strike starting tonight in response to planned government reforms of pensions and employment schemes.

French rail company SNCF's trade unions called for strikes last week, with the Paris-based RATP transport authority also taking part.

High-speed TGV trains including the Eurostar route between Paris and London will also be affected, with eight out of ten Eurostar trains expected to run.

Employees of state run services are also expected to take part in the action from Wednesday evening through to Thursday.
