Australia Beefs Up Frieght Network

11 October 2007

Australia's Queensland Rail (QR) is to increase its fleet of freight trains in a €108m contract with German train manufacturer Siemens Transportation Systems.

Siemens says the 25 Class 3800 electric locomotives will expand QR's locomotive fleet in the Goonyella coal systems, allowing QR to provide increased haulage capacity through increased payload of each train.

The heavy haul locomotives will be built in Germany from where they will be delivered over 12 months starting at the end of 2009.
