German Rail Union Calls Nationwide Strike

02 October 2007

The German train drivers union (GDL) has called for a national strike on commuter and freight lines following the collapse of wage talks with state rail company Deutsche Bahn.

GDL has announced a strike from 5 October for a "limited period."

Deutsche Bahn has proposed a 10% salary increase, but GDL is holding out for 30%, according to German reports.
