The Scottish Government has announced £1bn plans for the electrification of the main Edinburgh-Glasgow rail line, hailed as a major boost for the country's economy.
The plans were laid out by Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson after formally announcing the scrapping of the £650m Edinburgh Airport Rail Link.
The project, due to be delivered by 2016, with up to six trains an hour running between the two cities with journey times on the quickest services cut to 35 minutes.
