Scotland Airport Link to be Scrapped

25 September 2007

The Scottish Government is set to ditch plans for a direct rail link to Edinburgh Airport and tell travellers to take the tram instead, reports The Scotsman newspaper.

The £650m Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL), which involves diverting both the Edinburgh-Glasgow and Edinburgh-Fife lines and building a tunnel under the runway, are to be scrapped.

The SNP (Scottish National Party) fought elections earlier this year on a pledge to ditch both EARL and the trams, but said it wanted an alternative way of providing a rail link to the airport, according to the newspaper.
