Bombardier and Siemens win $557m Rail Deal

21 September 2007

German transportation company Bombardier Transportation and German technology company Siemens have been awarded a $557m rail contract by Netherlands Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen - NS).

The two companies will deliver 32 four-car and 32 six-car electric multiple units (EMUs) running at maximum speeds of 160km/h.

The new trains are based on a previously used Bombardier-Siemens commuter train design, adjusted to the specific requirements of NS and Dutch railway system.

Bombardier says the improved accessibility of the trains will minimise boarding time and enhance safety.

The trains are scheduled for delivery between October 2009 and November 2010.
