Georgian Rail Goes to Unknown Group

21 August 2007

The Georgian Government has handed over control of its railways to a mystery group, set up specifically to oversee the country's rail system.

The Georgian Government posted a decree this week declaring it was handing over management rights of the state-run railway company to a group called Parkfield Investment.

Most commentators in Georgia have welcomed the decision even though there is obscurity surrounding who the investors are, according to local reports.
