Owner and operator of the UK's rail and infrastructure, Network Rail, has awarded key contracts to two IT technology companies in a move to outsource key areas of its business.
International IT services company Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has signed a five-year IT services contract with Network Rail to provide midrange services.
Midrange work includes server maintenance and management, data centre hosting, security, disaster recovery planning and storage area network management.
From October 2007, European technology solutions provider Specialist Computer Centres (SCC) will service Network Rail's distributed computer and maintenance network across the UK which includes delivering local projects in offices around the country.
Network Rail owns and operates the UK's railway infrastructure including tracks, signals, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, level crossings and stations.
