A home-made bomb which derailed a passenger train in Russia yesterday may have been planted by terrorists according to Russian police.
The Neva Express passenger train from Moscow to St Petersburg derailed in the Novgorod Region, 180km from Moscow, derailing 13 cars and injuring 60 people.
Russian television news reports claim that a deep pit was formed under the ninth car of the train following the explosion.
Police believe the bomb could have been planted by terrorists and have opened an investigation.
Trains to St Petersburg are detouring around the accident site today which is expected to cause major delays for passengers.
Russia has been a target of terrorism, mostly by Chechen separatist groups since President Vladimir Putin came to power in 2000.
