Leighton Holdings Ltd Wins New Sydney Rail Network Contract

Sydney-based Leighton Holdings Ltd said a team including its Leighton Contractors unit has won a AU$450m contract involving work on the Sydney rail network.

The company, 53% owned by Germany's Hochtief AG, said the contract includes the construction of two new rail lines between the two stations, ten new rail bridges and modifications to five existing bridges.

Other members of the team are state-owned Transport Infrastructure Development Corp, Hong Kong's Maunsell AECOM Group, project management firm Sinclair Knight Merz, Macmahon Holdings Ltd's partly owned MVM Rail and Union Switch & Signal Inc of the US.

The contract is part of a AU$1.8bn of work being undertaken to reduce bottlenecks in Sydney's rail network.
